PBIS

Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be Safe.

At Huffman Elementary, we believe that positive behavior helps create a school where every student can learn, grow, and feel a sense of belonging. Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program provides a schoolwide approach to teaching, recognizing, and reinforcing positive behavior.

Rather than simply telling students what not to do, we focus on teaching students what positive behavior looks and sounds like throughout our school.

The Huffman Way

Our Huskies are expected to:

🐾 Be Respectful
Treat others with kindness, use appropriate words and actions, and respect people and property.

🐾 Be Responsible
Come prepared to learn, make good choices, follow directions, and take responsibility for your actions.

🐾 Be Safe
Make choices that keep yourself and others safe in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, restrooms, playground areas, and throughout the school.

Teaching Positive Behavior

Just like academic skills, we believe behavior expectations should be taught and practiced. Staff members teach and reinforce our PBIS expectations in different areas of the school so students understand what it means to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe wherever they are.

When students make mistakes, we use those moments as opportunities to reteach expectations, reflect on choices, and help students make better decisions moving forward.

Recognizing Our Huskies

We believe positive choices deserve to be noticed! Throughout the school year, students have opportunities to be recognized and celebrated for demonstrating the Huffman Way.

Schoolwide celebrations, activities, incentives, and other recognition opportunities help us celebrate students who contribute to a positive, safe, and welcoming school community.

Families Are Part of the Pack

Families are important partners in PBIS. You can help by talking with your child about the Huffman Way and encouraging them to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe both at school and at home.

When our students, staff, and families work together, we create a school community where everyone can succeed.
