Head Principal

Dear Stakeholders,

A new school year brings new opportunities, fresh beginnings, and new faces. As we embark on this exciting journey, Cahokia High School (CHS) welcomes a new Administrative Team, and I am both honored and proud to serve as your principal.

My name is Anson Mitchell, and this marks my twenty-seventh year in education. I began my administrative career at Cahokia High School in 2006 and have since served as an administrator in East St. Louis School District #189 and Alton Unit School District #10. Prior to entering administration, I taught in Chicago, Belleville, and Cahokia, experiences that shaped my commitment to student success and instructional excellence.

I was born and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois, as the youngest of nine children. I am a proud graduate of Lincoln Senior High School and the father of two teenagers. I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Additionally, I am a proud veteran of the United States Army.

I firmly believe that education is the key to success. It opens doors, creates opportunities, and serves as a powerful equalizer regardless of one’s background or circumstances. This belief drives my passion for ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education that prepares them for future success.

I look forward to working collaboratively with our students, staff, families, and community stakeholders. Together, we will remain solution-driven and focused on providing an educational experience that equips our students for a bright and successful future.

Sincerely,
Anson Mitchell
Principal, Cahokia High School

12th Grade Associate Principal

This year marks my 22nd year serving in Cahokia School District 187. I began my career in the district in 2004 as a permanent substitute teacher and later spent nine years as a special education teacher. I am now beginning my 7th year as an administrator and my 5th year at Cahokia High School.

My educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Teaching, and a Master’s degree in School Administration and Leadership.

I am blessed to be married to my beautiful wife, Sandra, and we have two wonderful sons. Outside of education, I enjoy thought-provoking conversations and debates, music, and reading.

One of the most meaningful aspects of my work in education is the opportunity to influence the next generation. I look forward to continuing to help our students recognize their potential, pursue excellence, and become people who make a positive impact—not only in their local community, but in the broader world.

Michael Hill

10th Grade Associate Principal

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I am thrilled to step into the role of Assistant Principal at CHS. This year marks my 21st year in education, a journey that includes 18 foundational years in the classroom and the past two years serving as an Instructional Coach right here at CHS. My heart is in supporting our teachers and seeing our students succeed.

I earned my undergraduate degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and my M.A. Ed. in Educational Administration & Leadership from McKendree University. Beyond academics, university holds a special place in my life because it’s where I met my wife, Ambrea. Together, we are the proud parents of two wonderful daughters. Outside of school, I stay active by working on my fitness, riding my motorcycle, and spending quality time with my family.

I am deeply grateful to join our administrative team, especially during such an exciting chapter for our school. With our new state-of-the-art facility and an incredible community behind us, I look forward to everything we will build together. Here’s to a great year!

Polly Brinkman

9th Grade Associate Principal

Hello! I am excited to begin my 24th year with Cahokia Unit School District 187. My journey began at Wirth Middle School in 2002 as a Physical Education teacher before moving to Cahokia High School in 2009, where I continued teaching Physical Education. Last year, I made the transition into administration as the 9th Grade Associate Principal, and I am excited to begin my second year in this role.

Outside of school, I am happily married to my husband, Kris, and we are proud parents of our two wonderful children. I enjoy staying active, trying new adventures, and continually learning new things.

I am especially excited about the opportunities our new building will provide for both students and staff. This new environment represents a fresh beginning and will create new experiences that foster learning, collaboration, and a strong sense of community. I look forward to getting to know our students, supporting them throughout their high school journey, and helping them develop the skills and confidence they need for a successful future. I am excited for everything this school year will bring and can't wait to see all that we accomplish together.
