Program Overview

Cahokia CUSD 187 offers In-District-School Suspension Placement for students at The Academic and Character Development Center (ACDC). The program is designed to provide support to students in grade levels 6 - 12 who have received an out-of-school suspension.  ACDC requires students to complete assigned coursework, participate in character development, and participate in group and individual counseling sessions. 

Participation in ACDC ensures that students stay actively engaged in the educational process, and more advantageous,  that students stay connected to the expectations of their home school and home classroom teachers. While students are in attendance at ACDC, they are not considered absent.

As part of ACDC enrollment, counseling services to address issues such as attendance, behavior, academics, and other areas identified as requiring support. Students will create a plan of personal goals related to their social and emotional well-being, and academic performance. Student placement at ACDC is a collaborative effort with staff, families, community agencies, businesses, social service agencies, and local law enforcement for the purpose of assisting students' in developing a plan to meet their established goals.

In partnership with secondary schools within the Cahokia Unit School District, the Academic and Character Development Center (ACDC) will serve as an intervention placement opportunity to provide supportive services to students who have received an out-of-school behavioral consequence in order to ensure students are maintaining reasonable access to learning while developing beneficial social and emotional life skills needed to be successful in school. 

ACDC will offer student support towards character and social-emotional development with the goal of reducing school recidivism.  Additionally, this program will collaborate with teachers and principals of students to ensure consistency and continuity with expected learning outcomes. Essential community partnerships will help provide supportive workshops, guest speakers, and other valuable resources and experiences for students in an effort to reinforce the importance of achieving the desired growth goals.
